A trip to Athy
Sculptor Mark Richards' work marks the location of the new-look Shackleton Museum. The statue of Ernest Shackleton is 3.5 meters high and shows Shackleton: the explorer, with large polar mittens and boots, his arms crossed; pensive yet determined. He is standing on a representation of the icy landscape he was so drawn to, an alternative to a plinth or a column.
The Shackleton museum succeeds in telling the well-known story in an interactive and exciting way for all.
